Members’ Choice

If you join TFS for 2008-2009 you may select your favourite from the list below. The winning film will be shown on 5 December 2008.

Each member joining the society should vote for one title only (so if two members in a household join, the household has two votes).

Classic: The Glenn Miller Story (PG, 1954)
The evergreen bio-pic of the lamented bandleader, with Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson, plus a host of popular tunes. (116 minutes).
 
Thriller: Tell No One (15, 2006, subtitled)
A doctor who has grieved over the murder of his wife several years earlier, is informed that she may still be alive. (125 minutes).
 
Contemporary: La Vie En Rose (15, 2007, subtitled)
The story of French singer Edith Piaf, portrayed with Oscar-winning
panache by young actress Marion Cotillard. (140 minutes).
 
Comedy: A Night At The Opera (U, 1935)
Groucho, Harpo and Chico Marx help a love sick opera singer woo the lady of his dreams. And remember…“there ain’t no sanity clause.” (96 minutes).
 
Drama: On The Waterfront (PG, 1954)
Marlon Brando struggles against gangster Lee J Cobb's hold over the New York longshoremen in this tense stand-off. (108 minutes).
 
Bollywood: Bride And Prejudice (12A, 2004, part-subtitled)
An all-singing, all-dancing, all-family re-working of the classic Jane Austen novel. From the director of Bend It Like Beckham. (112 minutes).
