| Welcome to the Topsham Film Society!
Hello and welcome to the Topsham Film Society website.
Here you will find details of our 2009-10
programme – our
largest ever, with 12 films – and it is still not too late
to join. We hope you will agree that there is a stimulating and
entertaining mix of titles, including our first ballet and an
adult animation film as well as a few classics and some contemporary
drama and comedy.
Please note there are two modifications to our
original programme:
Our first showing in the new year will now
be on 15 January 2010 and NOT a week earlier, as originally advertised.
So you can see The Counterfeiters on January 15 with showings
at 3pm (doors open from 2.30pm) and at 7.30pm (doors and bar
from 6.45pm).
Our traditional Members’ Choice film,
voted for by our members, will be Atonement. This will be shown
on 5 March 2010 at 3pm and 7.30pm as usual.
Showings
All performances take place at Matthews Hall, Fore Street,
Topsham. This year we are enjoying record attendances so there
is likely to be much more room for guests as well as members
at the 3pm performance. Matthews Hall has been modernised in 2009,
with considerable improvements to the acoustics. There is also
now a comfortable café bar in the foyer where you can
enjoy a glass of wine before the evening performances.
Audience rating
At every screening we gauge the reaction of our audience. Each
attendee is asked whether they consider the film to be Excellent,
Good, Fair, Poor or Awful. Using a method of analysis common
amongst film societies like ours, we can see that the higher
the 'reaction' percentage, the more popular the film. This in
turn helps us create film programmes that are stimulating and
enjoyable.
